Privacy
Short version: we don't want your data.
SpotPump has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no third-party tracking. The only personal information that ever touches our servers is your approximate location — and only when you ask us to find gas near you.
What we store on your device
A few small things in your browser's local storage, never sent to us:
- Your theme preference (light or dark)
- Your default fuel grade choice (Regular, Premium, Diesel)
- Your most recent search (for up to one hour, so the page can pick up where you left off)
You can clear these any time by clearing site data in your browser. Nothing breaks.
What we send to third parties
When you use SpotPump, certain requests are made on your behalf to keep the app working. We send only what's necessary:
- Google Places (gas station search) — your latitude/longitude and a request for nearby gas stations.
- Mapbox (autocomplete) — the address text you're typing.
- Nominatim (reverse geocoding when you tap "Use location") — your latitude/longitude.
- Open Charge Map (EV charger search) — your latitude/longitude and a request for nearby charging stations.
- Massive.com / EIA (crude oil prices) — no personal data; same query for everyone.
- NewsAPI (oil & gas news) — no personal data; same query for everyone.
- CartoDB / OpenStreetMap (map tiles) — your map view bounds, as required to render the map.
Each of those services has its own privacy policy. We don't share anything with them beyond what's needed to fulfill the request you triggered.
What our server logs
Our server keeps short-lived logs of API requests, including the IP address of the requesting client. This is used only for rate limiting — to stop a single client from hammering the site and burning through API quota. Logs are not analyzed, sold, or shared.
Cookies, ads, analytics
We don't use cookies, tracking pixels, advertising networks, or analytics services. There's nothing to opt out of because there's nothing to opt in to.
Your geolocation
When you tap "Use location," your browser will ask your permission before sharing coordinates. SpotPump only uses those coordinates while finding your nearby stations and reverse-geocoding the address shown in the search bar. We don't keep them after the request finishes.
Changes
If we ever change how SpotPump handles data (we have no current plans to), we'll update this page and date the change.
